ITOA AR-15/M-16/M-4 Armorer Course

Held on the day prior to the start of the ITOA Annual Training Conference, this AR-15/M-16/M-4 Armorer Course can be added on to your conference experience or attended as a standalone course.


In conjunction with NEMRT – MTU #3

Certified by the Training Board - Mandates 2.5 hours-

Class Size: Registration is limited to 100 Officers

All attendees will receive a basic field repair parts kit purchased from our class sponsor, M&A Parts of Lake Zurich IL (value $50), included in the registration fee.

ITOA is offering an intensive one-day review of the AR-15 / M-16 rifle - carbine system for all officers / trainers who carry or maintain this weapon system for departmental - duty use / personal use.

The instructors for this class include Ned Christiansen – master gunsmith M-Guns Michigan, Jeff Chudwin, Peotone P.D. IL, and Kim Heath-Chudwin, Will County Sheriff, IL, Daryl Howell, Cook County Sheriff, IL, Andy Orians Round Lake P.D. (ret.), Larry Laidley, Will County Sheriff, along with additional armorer / safety officers who will be on site to assist the class.

Students will be instructed in and practice disassembly and reassembly of the component parts of the upper and lower receiver. Students will identify the difference between the semi- auto and full auto functions, identify and trouble shoot malfunctions and mechanical failures.

This is ordinarily a two-day class that we are offering

in a compressed format. 

To cover as much as we can for you, we plan on a working lunch and

ask that you bring a bag lunch / food and drinks for the day.

 

Please bring the following items:

1.    clear safety glasses or shatter proof prescription glasses

MANDATORY!

2.    small hammer

3.    old bath towel / shop towel(s) / rags for working surface

4.    small - medium size safety pin (to remove gas rings)

5.    1/8 inch pin punch

6.    3/16 inch Allen Wrench – Length 4 inch to remove cap type pistol grip screws, OR

7.    long shank flat blade screw driver, 4" minimum to remove slot type pistol grip screws

8.    roll of black electrical tape

9.    small flashlight – clip on ball cap brim - hands free type is best:

10. small container of lubricant.

 

We will have extra screw drivers, Allen wrenches, pin punches, and safety pins if needed but it is best if you can bring one of each.

Check the type of pistol grip screw in your rifle/carbine and you need only bring the screw driver or Allen wrench to fit it.

Any problems, let us know and we will work it out.

Protective clear safety glasses will be worn at all times and must be brought by the student. Shatter proof corrective lens are acceptable wear.

All students must bring to the class a .223 / 5.56 mm AR-15 / M-16 / M-4 type rifle/carbine for the class.

Please do not bring any other caliber AR type firearm.


A D/I gas system (standard AR-15/M-16 gas system) is required for

the class. If you have questions or all you have is a piston rifle,

contact Jeff Chudwin at JChudwin@itoa.org.

 

ALL SAFETY PROCEDURES will be strictly enforced and

adhered to at all times.

 

NO LIVE RIFLE AMMO WILL BE PERMITED IN THE

TRAINING AREA.

ABOUT ITOA

This is an opportunity for tactical officers to gather together to compare ideas and experiences. Through education and networking, it was hoped that high-risk operations requiring the use of a tactical team would be made safer.
