Patrol CQB, Building Search Train the Trainer / Instructor Course

Dates: January 14-15-16, 2025 Times: 9am-5pm

Locations: Gurnee & Lake Villa

PURPOSE OF COURSE: This three day, 24-hour course is designed to teach officers proper building search and room clearing tactics and how to teach it to other Officers. The focus of this program is to provide officers with the knowledge and specialized tactical skills they will need to perform and teach building searches and room clearing.

COURSE OVERVIEW: This course is designed to train officers in the fundamentals and tactical skill sets required during building searches and room clearing operations. The focus of this program will be to provide officers with the knowledge, specialized tactical skill sets, and strategic understanding to be able to manage, perform and teach three critical high-risk patrol functions: building searches, room clearing and arrest team tactics.

COURSE GOALS: The goals of this course are as follows:

  • To provide students with an understanding of why building searching/room clearing tactics were developed and the need for them to be integrated into their daily patrol activities.
  • To identify and discuss use-of-force and safety priority issues related to building searching/room clearing tactics including immediate defense of life, law, police, procedure, and established safety priorities.
  • To provide students with an inventory of appropriate equipment to be used when conducting these types of operations, including issues related to weapon and ammunition selection and uniform/identification requirements.
  • To assist participants in demonstrating practical knowledge and performance ability while conducting building searching/room clearing operations, as well as movement formations, verbal skills, firearms handling/deployment skills, and working as a team.
  • To allow students the opportunity to participate in realistic scenario-based training and demonstrate their ability to perform building searching/room clearing operational skill sets.
  • To provide students the opportunity to learn, practice and teach the tactical skill sets necessary to perform and teach: Building searches / Room clearing / Use of cover / Suspect custody

COURSE PREREQUISITES: Students should be current and/or perspective department Patrol Tactics Instructors, FTO’s, Range Officers and other officers who are familiar with and proficient in basic Patrol Tactics, as well as Active Shooter Response techniques and tactics. Attendees to this class should have End User (preferably Instructor) Training in the following areas are:

1. Use of Force

2. Pistol / Rifle

3. High Risk Traffic Stops

4. High Risk Patrol Tactics

5. Active Threat Response

COURSE INSTRUCTORS / MATERIAL: The course instructors are ITOA & Illinois Master Tactical Instructors, with decades of experience teaching and conducting Building Searches and CQB, as well as Realistic Scenario Based Training. They who will be following nationally recognized best practices & tactics that are recent and relevant to Patrol Officers.
